Dr. Edson Pinheiro de Lima
Dr. Edson Pinheiro de Lima is a professor of operations and technology management at the Industrial & Systems Engineering Department at Pontifical Catholic University of Parana (PUCPR) Polytechnic School, Brazil. His current research interests are operations strategy, performance management and measurement, strategic management, organizational design and sustainable operations.
He recently was a visiting academic at the Industrial Engineering Department at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain, sponsored by Erasmus Mundus external Cooperation Window – EUBRAZIL STARTUP. He also was a visiting academic at the Operations Management Group of the Warwick Business School, U.K., from December 2006 to December 2007. For the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) he has reviewed several proposals and was granted a research fellowship. He has published more than 100 articles in scholarly journals, conference proceedings and book chapters on various aspects of operations management.
He was a founder member of the Industrial Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering Groups at Pontifical Catholic University of Parana, where he served as Director of the Industrial and Systems Engineering Graduate Program at PUCPR, from 2009-2010, and Director of the Control and Automation Engineering Undergraduate Program at PUCPR, from 2002-2004. He was the Head of Graduate and Undergraduate Department of the Campus in the City of Pato Branco at the Federal University of Technology – Parana (UTFPR). He still is an associate professor (part-time) at the Curitiba Campus of the UTFPR.
He received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), his Master Degree in Electrical Engineering (Automation) from University of Campinas (UNICAMP), and his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Federal University of Technology – Parana (UTFPR). During his Ph.D. he spent 12 months as a Visiting Researcher at the Industrial Engineering Department at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain.
Edson Pinheiro coordinated some important projects within PRODUTRONICA, which is part of the Polytechnic School. He contributes in the program development and accreditation processes for undergraduate and graduate courses related to the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department. He also coordinated and actively participated as a member, in projects funded by the Brazilian Energy Agency and ITAIPU Co., through the development of strategic knowledge management models from an operations management perspective. He also contributed to the design of continuous education programs that aim to train and develop technical engineering skills.
Edson Pinheiro is a Chartered Engineer and a member of professional and academic associations such as ABEPRO, POMS, EurOMA, IIE and IIE-SEMS.
Recently he has been involved in developing initiatives for implementing sustainable operations management systems. The project is funded by a company that is located in the PUCPR technological park, using incentives of the Curitiba City Agency for Development.
