While working at a VA hospital in Indianapolis, Yuehwern Yih, a professor of industrial engineering at Purdue University, found opportunity in her newfound medical network to help people halfway around the world. Yih and her team developed a nutrition system to help HIV patients receive food and combat the disease's symptoms.

Recent news reports have indicated that U.S. manufacturing grew in November 2013 at the fastest pace in two and a half years, and more than half of all manufacturers are or are actively considering reshoring production to the U.S.. None of this is news to Georgia Tech's Ben Wang. But his interests go beyond traditional manufacturing, or manufacturing 1.0, returning to the U.S.

Don Larson moved to Mozambique in 2011. Before then, he spent 25 years building and transforming factories for major food processors. He and his family were living well. And he was fielding another lucrative job offer in a career that had taken him all over the world. But the dichotomy of his world – abundance for him and his family versus destitution in developing nations – triggered a spiritual journey.
