Teaching Simulation Through Modern Simulation Software
Allen G. Greenwood, Ph.D., P.E.

After a brief introduction of the presenter's background, experience, and teaching philosophy, this workshop addresses the following questions that are related to the design and delivery of a required simulation course in an industrial and systems engineering curriculum.

  • How do we motivate student interest in simulation modeling and analysis?
  • How can we get students to understand the fundamentals of simulation and its use, as well as being able to effectively use simulation to solve problems?
  • How does modern software enable learning and enhance teaching simulation?
  • What is the content and structure of a course that balances theory and application?
  • How can a simulation course be an integrator of an industrial engineering curriculum?
  • What resources are available to help faculty transition to integrating FlexSim into a simulation course?

Allen Greenwood is professor of industrial and systems engineering at Mississippi State University. For more than 30 years, he has been engaged in simulation research, teaching, consulting, and professional practice. He has taught basic and advanced simulation courses to undergraduate students, graduate students, engineers in industry, and simulation educators, and has led numerous simulation projects in a wide variety of industries. He has been using FlexSim in industry projects since 2006, has taught simulation using FlexSim since 2010, and is a co-author of the textbook Applied Simulation Modeling and Analysis Using FlexSim.

Build a Predictive model in 1 hour with SIMUL8
Sander Vermeulen

How long should it take to build a simulation model?

Using SIMUL8’s Rapid Modeling environment you can build a complete simulation in just one hour!

Join SIMUL8 for our breakfast training session and learn how to build a simulation using SIMUL8 features such as data import from Excel and new features from SIMUL8 2014, including the Day planner and Resource Schedule.

Led by our expert consultants by the end of the hour you will have discovered some powerful  SIMUL8 features, and built a simulation that you can run to get detailed results.

Sander Vermeulen is head of services at SIMUL8 Corp. and has been part of the simulation community for 16 years. During his time at SIMUL8 Corp. he has managed large simulation projects for Fortune 50 companies across a variety of industries including manufacturing, defense, call center and healthcare.

In his role with SIMUL8, Sander is passionate about creating users who will be successful with simulation, so that they can improve processes, increase efficiency and save money in their organizations.
