IIE's Construction Division brings together members who are involved in all facets of the construction industry, such as design, value engineering, project management, research, safety and ergonomics. With these combined resources, we hope to bring to the construction industry a rich supply of knowledge, innovation and experience that can have the kind of positive impact that IEs have long used to bring the manufacturing and service industries to superlative levels of performance. Review the Construction Division mission statement.
Time has really flown by. I can’t believe that the IIE Annual Conference & Expo 2014 scheduled to take place in Montréal, Canada, from May 31 - June 3 is just around the corner. The conference promises to be an exciting one as it will contain a wide array of presentations, seminars, exhibits, and meetings that are important to all industrial engineers who would like to keep current with developments in the field.

From George Gardner:
Hello to all my fellow Construction Division members!
As many of you know, at this time of year, our Construction Division members are working diligently on the upcoming 2014 IIE Annual Conference being held in Canada. Thanks to the efforts of our own Al Atth and Lincoln Forbes (plus others on the board), it looks like we have a solid lineup of speakers for the event! The final list of speakers and their presentation materials will be available shortly. Even if you can't be a speaker, it is always a very fun and excellent learning event. Read more
Student Paper Competition
The results are in and the Construction Division would like to extend a big congratulations to the following student paper competition winners:
First place: Laura Florez-Perez, Georgia Institute of Technology, "Decision Support System for Sustainable Labor Management in Masonry Construction"
Second place: Carl Kirpes, Iowa State University, "Integrating Project Estimating and Cash Flow Analysis to Develop Companywide Resource Loading Projections"
Third place: Simon Matar, Western Michigan University, "Evaluation of Potential Use of Waste Powder Paint (WPP) in Cement Grout and Mortar"
Ms. Florez-Perez will present her winning paper during the conference on Monday, June 2 at 3:30 p.m. After the session, Ms. Florez will then be honored at the Honors and Awards Dessert Reception and at the Construction Division Town Hall Meeting.
A panel of four judges from industry and academia reviewed the papers and were impressed with the high quality of entries spanning topics from productivity management tools to materials development. The student paper competition is sponsored by the ConAM Group, a builder and developer of residential projects throughout the United States. The winner will receive a cash award and travel funds to attend the IIE Annual Conference and Expo in Montreal, QC totaling $2,500.

Wanted: Construction articles for Industrial Engineer magazine
The Construction Division invites members to submit articles on construction topics through our publications committee for publication in the monthly Industrial Engineer magazine. We would like to see IE-related articles about construction included in the Industrial Engineer magazine on a regular basis, and we are starting by determining which members are interested, and the topics that they would like to write about. At this point, we would just like to see a brief outline of the topic(s) that you wish to write about. Following that we plan to provide you with the detailed publication requirements, such as the format and length to be observed for each article. By working together, we can organize our articles in a sequence that will be most interesting and informative for our readers. Please contact Bobby Smyth.
International Correspondents – The Construction Division has a special opportunity for members who wish to serve as international correspondents.
Mentoring and Internship Opportunities for IE Students in the Construction Industry – One of the goals of the Construction Division is to assist members in becoming actively involved in the construction industry.
