We are accepting abstract proposals for poster and
presentations on the following topics broadly defined:
Process Improvement: Track will include
presentations on application and education related to tools such as lean six
sigma and lean to improve healthcare processes, improvement quality outcomes,
remove waste, and deliver value to customers. Change Management: Presentations
in this track will focus on identifying, advancing and synthesizing knowledge
about organizational change for successful implementation, adaptation and
sustainability of process improvements in healthcare.
Leadership and Change Management: Given the unprecedented
challenges and change facing the healthcare industry, it is not enough to just
apply the tools and methods. The role of leaders at all levels, and our
ability to influence and lead change becomes more critical. This track focuses
on the importance of leadership and change management and the role of management
engineering professionals in defining, influencing and executing corporate
organizational transformation or formulating unique and innovative value
propositions for organizations.
Operations Research: Presentations in this
track will focus on optimization of patient flow through the care delivery
system by reducing patient wait time, optimizing staff, making better capacity
planning decisions, scheduling, designing better facilities etc. using advanced
analytics tools and methods such as forecasting, mathematical programming,
system dynamics, simulation or other operation research tools.
Quality and Safety: Presentations will focus
on interventions that improve quality and safety in healthcare through
translating evidence into practice.
Research: This track will primarily focus on presentations from academia
on use of existing or newly developed industrial engineering tools and methods
and their applications in health and healthcare.
Human Factors: The track will focus on the
applications of human factor engineering and ergonomics in development of
equipment, information technology or understanding of the clinical staff
psychology for patient safety and improved care delivery.
Potpourri: Broad category that could include any other topic that hasn’t
been captured like supply chain, human factor engineering, cost reduction, big
data analytics, cost reduction, EMER/EHR workflow etc.
Expert Panel Discussions: Panel discussions
moderated by a facilitator with subject matter experts discussing a wide
variety of healthcare systems engineering topics ranging from role of
management engineering teams or preparing the next generation healthcare
systems engineers or ACOs. The moderator will facilitate the discussion on a
certain topic between a panel of subject matter experts or practitioners or
The oral presentations can be 20, 50 or 100 min in duration based
on the topic while posters provide excellent visibility with prominent display
in well-attended areas of the meeting on both days of the conference. Posters
Presenters benefit from the interactive critique, suggestions and encouragement
from colleagues working in similar areas. All poster presentations are eligible
for participating in a poster competition.
Selections for presentations and posters will be evaluated based
on the following criteria:
relevance of the ideas and/or techniques to other conference attendees
- Originality: new
or advanced application of an existing practice or presentation of a new
thoroughness of explanation, assumptions are reasonable, techniques
organization of logic, clarity of definition for problem and/or objective,
Quality: overall quality and value relative to other abstracts submitted
