Manufacturing & Design Division
Message from the President
Dear M&D Members,
The mission of the division is to support the IIE manufacturing and design community in advancing the state of the art. We are reaching out to division members through multiple venues including the annual ISERC and Applied Solutions conferences, the M&D newsletter, and webinars. We have also introduced new division awards to recognize the outstanding contributions of our division members. I would like to make you aware that there are opportunities to serve in division committees that provide recommendations to the M&D Division Board.
If you are interested, please contact me (email@example.com) or President-Elect Rohan Shirwaiker (firstname.lastname@example.org). I would also encourage members to contact us with any suggestions or recommendations for improving the value of the M&D Division for its members. I look forward to meeting you at our Town Hall Meeting at the ISERC 2016 Conference in Anaheim.
Register now for the IIE Annual Conference 2016
Manufacturing and Design Division is a sponsor of two presentation tracks at the IIE Annual Conference and Expo in Anaheim, Calif., May 21-24, 2016: ISERC Manufacturing and Engineering Design Track, for research oriented presentations, Applied Solutions Manufacturing and Engineering Design Track, for application oriented presentations. Hope to see you there!
M&D Track Best Paper Award
The M&D track has a standard procedure for selecting and awarding the best paper award during the ISERC. All full papers submitted to M&D track at the conference will be automatically evaluated for best paper award competition. The track chairs will recommend a short list of about 5 papers using recommendations and ratings from the reviewers. Subsequently, a best paper award committee is formed and the committee performs a double-blind review process on these candidate papers in order to choose the best paper for the M&D track. The best paper award will be recognized at the ISERC conference.
Manufacturing and Design (M&D) Division Best Student Paper Competition
The Best Student Paper Award recognizes excellence in a conference paper whose primary contributor is a student member of IIE and the Manufacturing and Design Division and encourages students to present their paper at the annual ISERC. For students interested in being considered for this award, full paper submission should be made via the conference's regular submission process by the Jan 30 deadline. In addition, a nomination form must be completed by faculty advisors and submitted via email to email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org by Feb. 7, 2016.
Manufacturing and Design (M&D) Division Outstanding Service Award
The second annual Outstanding Service Award recognizes contributions to and leadership in public and community matters, the Manufacturing and Design Division, the manufacturing engineering profession or the manufacturing industry. Deadline for nominations has been extended until March 1, 2016.
Manufacturing and Design (M&D) Division Outstanding Young Investigator Award
This award recognizes Manufacturing and Design Division members under the age of 35 for their technical contribution to manufacturing and design. Deadline for nominations is Feb. 16, 2016.
We would like to recognize 2015 Award Recipients:

Manufacturing and Design Division Demographics
Why Manufacturing and Design?
It is well established that manufacturing and design problems cannot be addressed independent of each other. Product engineering needs to assess the impact of design decisions on manufacturing. Advanced manufacturing must consider both product and process innovations that address the needs of the customer and provide manufacturers with a competitive edge. The relentless pressure to innovate, improve product quality, reduce costs, and increase productivity is driving the manufacturing and design community to pursue advanced design and manufacturing technologies. Members are shaping the future of manufacturing and design by actively engaging in research and development efforts in digital design, digital manufacturing, advanced manufacturing technologies and processes, advanced materials manufacturing, and advanced sensing and control.
What is the Manufacturing & Design Division?
The Manufacturing & Design Division is a community of professionals with interest in advancing the state of the art in manufacturing and design. The division provides a common platform for the discussion, education, and dissemination of contemporary issues in the field of manufacturing and design. With this purpose in mind, the division will: 1) encourage the development and dissemination of technical knowledge; 2) provide a forum for technical networking; 3) Serve as the voice of the technical field; and 4) support IIE's mission in providing value to members and promoting the discipline. If you are not currently a member, join IIE and become a member of the manufacturing and design community.
