About the division
Members of this division are interested in advancing their knowledge of lean practices.
The mission of the Lean Division shall be to support its members by fostering networks, offering programs and maintaining resources that represent their core competencies and/or areas of specialized practice. Read the bylaws.
- Develop, maintain and disseminate a body of technical knowledge.
- Provide a forum for technical networking.
- Be perceived as the voice of the technical specialty.
- Collaborate with IIE to support the mission of the Institute, provide member value and promote the discipline.
- Work with the Networking Leadership Council to establish a set of metrics that track Society & Division activities.

2015 Lean Achievement Awards
The Lean Best Practice Competition
The Lean Division is launching its fifth industry best practice award and welcomes applications from organizational teams for the Lean Division Best Practice Award 2015. The Award recognizes organizations for innovative and effective implementation of lean principles and practices that deliver exemplary business performance improvement. IIE will conduct the award competition to promote successful implementation of lean by recognizing best in class industries and sharing their stories with others. This is a very prestigious award for a team and their industry. The award will be bestowed to the top three teams and be presented at the IIE Annual Conference & Expo 2015, May 30-June 2 in Nashville, Tenn. Details of the competition
Lean Teaching Award sponsored by Lean Enterpise Value Foundation
IIE's Lean Division offers a number of awards to recognize the contribution of individuals to advancing the knowledge and practice of lean concepts. This award honors the services of a person/group of people who have developed curriculum and disseminated courses in the subject area. The Lean Division now invites nominations for the seventh Lean Teaching Award. The 2015 award will be presented at the III Annual Conference & Expo, May 30- June 2 in Nashville, Tenn. IIE Lean Division Student Paper Competition
The ninth annual IIE Lean Division Student Paper Competition will be held to honor outstanding
papers in the field of lean research and practices. The papers should
demonstrate or describe the use of techniques such as simulation, lean
principle implementation, alternative designs, kaizen implementation, etc. Both
undergraduate and graduate students and design teams are invited to submit
papers. The award will be given each year at the IIE Annual Conference & Expo, if
there is a suitable recipient.
Three awards may be given upon recommendation of
the selection committee. The winners must present their papers in the ISERC
Lean Systems Track at the IIE Annual Conference & Expo 2015, May 30 - June
2 in Nashville, Tennessee. All authors will receive a certificate stating place
awarded. There will be reserved seating at the Honors & Awards Banquet
for the lead author first place winner. The names will be announced before the Tuesday morning keynote
address. Their names will be on the scrolling Powerpoint Monday and Tuesday
mornings as people enter the ballroom for the keynote speakers. The first place
