He is in the fourth year of his Ph.D. program in management sciences (Management of Technology) at the University of Waterloo (Faculty of Engineering). Arsalan received his undergraduate degree in industrial engineering from Isfahan University of Technology in Iran and his master’s in design & manufacturing engineering from the University of Western Ontario.

Arsalan utilizes different approaches and techniques in his job, including strategic analysis, performance measurement, financial analysis and advanced data analysis to analyze business performance and develop new performance management systems based on strategic priorities and objectives across multiple roles and centers. In his previous jobs in the business process management (BPM) area in the bank, he applied project management, process architecture, process analysis by Six Sigma and process simulation approaches in BPM projects. He has received two performance awards from RBC for client experiences and innovation due to over 40% cost savings in the learning support program by utilizing above tools, and building simulation expertise within the organization which had significant impact on business efficiencies.

Arsalan has facilitated several training sessions in academic and workplace environments in BPM, process simulation, and statistics. In addition, he is active in research, publishing articles in journals and conference presentations. He has presented three research topics at previous IIE Conferences in the field of engineering economics and MIS, and he will present again in the simulation field (Applied Solution section) at the upcoming May 2012 IIE Conference, in Orlando. He will also introduce and lead the Practice & Application session as a part of SEMS student initiatives at the conference. In 2011, he reviewed of various papers for the Journal of Engineering, Design and Technology.

Arsalan is an active member of the SEMS Student Committee, leading the SEMS Student Practice & Development Initiative and presenting “What Students Need to be Successful in EM: For Students, By Students and Experts” at the 2012 IIE Applied Solutions Conference on behalf of the SEMS Student Committee.
