Ronald Bracalente

Throughout high school and college, Ronald Bracalente worked various jobs at his grandfather’s machine shop, Bracalente Manufacturing. Bracalente earned a B.S. in operations management with a minor in human resource management from Syracuse University. By the time he graduated from Syracuse, he learned the trade of tool making and worked as a process engineer for the company. After graduation, Bracalente’s professional career started with Bracalente Manufacturing – first as an operations manager, then vice president of operations. He now serves as the president and CEO of the Bracalente Manufacturing Group.

Since Bracalente joined the company, sales have grown more than 7.5 times. In addition to adding various machining and manufacturing process disciplines to the plant in Pennsylvania, he has added both a global import/export and global manufacturing business in China. Bracalente has streamlined operations using tools such as lean manufacturing, pay for performance gain sharing, one page strategic planning, and predictive index. He has also connected and collaborated with successful international companies in today’s modern manufacturing methods and systems. Bracalente also serves on the board of directors for the Precision Machined Products Association, the Manufacturer’s Resource Center and the Bucks County Boy Scouts of America.

Rick Duha is a third-generation leader of his family company printing company headquartered in Winnipeg, Canada. The company specializes in producing color materials for paint, automotive and cosmetic companies. The company currently exports its products to 150 countries around the world and has manufacturing operations in seven countries, including one in upstate New York. The Duha Group ownership and management teams, under Rick’s leadership, have turned to lean thinking as a way to navigate the turbulent waters. Their 13-year journey has been a highway full of twists and turns with positive results to show in the end.

Today, the company claims to be early on in where it believes lean can take them, and yet they have also hosted more than 3,000 outsiders to come and see what a successful lean transformation might look like. In fact, the company had such demand to share its journey they have opened a school teaching the culture of continuous improvement: The Duha Centre of Excellence.

Vincent Howell is manager, information security and policy at Corning Inc., the world leader in specialty glass and ceramics drawing on more than 160 years of materials science and process engineering knowledge. With 30-plus years of engineering, project management and engineering management experience, he has presented papers at various technical conferences and written a number of published papers, including in Ceramic Industry magazine. Howell is a past president of IIE’s Process Industries Division and a fellow of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

Carlos Wm. Moreno, Ph.D., is the CEO and founder of Ultramax Corp. (UMC) in Cincinnati. Since 1982, UMC has been providing industry with the most effective technology for managing production/manufacturing operations (of existing facilities) to maximize economic gains through safety, reliability, quality, productivity, costs, margins and environmental impact. Moreno was formerly a corporate internal consultant within the Procter & Gamble Co. He had various responsibilities in quality assurance, product and process optimization, economic analysis, industrial engineering, production planning and strategic business planning. He developed innovative technical solutions that have been published in professional and trade journals. One became a current commercial product, Ultramax®, applied in a variety of industries in production and manufacturing processes.

The focus of Moreno’s expertise is systems analysis, operations research/statistics/decision sciences, quality control, process control, economics and management. He has taught graduate courses at Bradley University, Xavier University, and the University of Cincinnati, mostly in the areas of operations research and quality control. Moreno holds a Ph.D. in industrial engineering from Purdue University, an M.S. in mechanical engineering from Caltech, and a B.S. in engineering science from the Case Institute of Technology. He is a fellow of ASQ and CQE and a senior member of IIE.
