In this section, we highlight a SEMS member for outstanding performance in the knowledge domains of engineering management and for exceptional service to the Society. This month, we honor Dr. Volker Grienitz!
Grienitz is an assistant professor for industrial engineering at the Institute of Production Technology at the University of Siegen. He holds an endowed chair of Muhr and Bender GmbH. He received his graduate degrees including Ph.D. in industrial engineering from University of Paderborn. His doctoral supervisor was Dr. Jürgen Gausemeier, and his focus was on technology scenarios. He is the author of more than 25 reviewed papers and book chapters with two primary topics: scenario technique in the area of complexity management and production system optimization with GraFem. In 2012, he earned the best paper award for the "Scenario based Service-Engineering" at the International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM 2012) in Istanbul within the Service Systems Track.
Grienitz received his business experience with 9 years as a management consultant in two companies, ScMI AG and UNITY AG. He holds a chair of the competence center in strategic planning. In winter term 2012/2013 he will be a deputy professor for operations management at the University of Hamburg. Grienitz is one driver of the public funded "Automotive Center Südwestfalen – ACS." At this center he is Academic Director of Technology-Innovation Management. Grienitz is an associate editor for the ASEM - Engineering Management Journal and is a member of the Academic Board - European Journal of Futures Research.

Grienitz places a significant importance on community service. He supports the local parish of his home town, Soest, along with his family. He also helps to organize travels for family groups and activities around holidays.
